“...For nothing will be impossible with God…” (Luke 1:37)
Have you ever felt God call you to do something that seemed impossible–or even outright unreasonable?
Imagine Mary, a young, engaged teenager, receiving a life-altering message: she would conceive and bear God’s Son, the Savior of the world (Luke 1:26-28). How do you think Mary felt? Scared? Confused? Unworthy? Worried about what others would think about her? How was she going to explain this to Joseph?
Like Mary, when God calls us to step into something beyond our understanding, our first reaction is often fear, questioning or hesitation (Luke 1:29, 34). Yet, God reassures her through the angel, calling her “favored one,” reminding her of value and protection over her life and reassuring her of His presence with her (Luke 1:28, 35). Most significantly, he affirms that though what God is to do sounds impossible to Mary, nothing is impossible with or for God (Luke 1:37).
This same truth applies to you.
God’s call over your life may feel overwhelming or “too big” for you, but that’s often a sign it is from Him. Trust that God will accomplish His purposes for your life because He does not fail. The truth that God specializes in impossibilities gave Mary the courage to trust God throughout her life.
From Mary carrying the Savior into the world (Lk. 2) to urging Jesus to perform His first miracle of turning water to wine (John 2) to standing at the foot of the cross at Jesus’s crucifixion (John 19:25-27), Mary specialized in confidence in God in the face of impossibility.
Mary’s invitation–and ours, too–is to walk in faith and watch God do the work. Find confidence and rest in the truth that God specializes in impossible circumstances.
This Christmas Eve, may God give you the grace to take the next step of faith and trust God for big things, and resolve like Mary in the face of impossibility, “Behold, I am a servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38).
Merry Christmas, Nikki!
