The Future Can (and Will) Wait
Reflections on Trusting God, Fear of the Future and Being Present
After many, many months of winter, summertime is here in Chicago. But for some reason yesterday, I had this strange thought about summer will end in a few months.
I know, I know. Technically, there are four months of summer ahead before fall (which is clearly the best season of the year).
But, still. Sometimes when we dread something ahead of us, we miss out on the fullness of what is actually before us.
Living this way can rob the joy that comes with life. How many experiences in life have you missed out on because you were too busy dreading what was to come?
However, through life, we come to discover that many of the things we fear rarely fully happen the way we imagined. And, whatever actually does happen, we are more prepared than we think we are to face it.
Today, may the God of Hope give us the grace to trust Him with what is to come, freeing us to stand ten toes down in the places He put us, fully present with the people around us so that we cherish the meaning behind the moments He gives us.
